Organize and support Tenant's Associations and Tenant Rights Workshops.
Support participation and development of Tenant Leaders at rallies, press conferences, trainings, landlord mediations, and other meetings Conduct outreach and education through door knocking, flyering and deep engagement.
Plan press conferences, meet with elected officials and communicate with landlords as needed to end harassment, ensure repairs, and prevent evictions.
Build strong relationships with Stabilizing NYC coalition partners and others to advance affordable housing in Queens and citywide.
Represent WOTM at meetings, conferences, and outreach events.
Campaign Strategy and Development Lead campaign work around rent stabilization, Right to Counsel, anti-displacement and other citywide campaigns around affordable housing.
Develop bilingual materials for public meetings, news articles, and social media.
Tenant Education Meet one-on-one with tenants to assess affordable housing needs.
Support work of the Housing Department including monthly Legal Clinic and Tenant Education activities.
Help train Case Manager and Community Organizer/CNL Apprentice.
Complete regular reports as required by the organization and funder.
Support overall work of WOTM, including participating in staff meetings and other organization-wide activities.
Desired Experience and
Qualifications:
Experience in nonprofit, social service or government organization.
Experience in public policy, urban planning, community organizing, economic development, or affordable housing.
Knowledge about rent regulation, eviction prevention, enrollment in programs like SCRIE, HEAP, DRIE, housing court, housing law, and citywide affordable housing campaigns.
Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
Bilingual, Spanish Bachelor's degree required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Social Media.
Experience working with diverse low-income and elderly populations a plus.
Experience with landlord and tenant mediation, and formation of tenants association preferred.
